Five Questions With Bianca L.

Bianca has been in TalentSoup since July 2010. Her Webcomp can be viewed at http://tso.to/iHvmE0. See examples of her work on the Talent @ Work blog. This is part of our Featured Talent series.

Why did you get into the industry?

I always wanted to get into modeling and acting, but thought I had to be six feet tall. That all changed for me when I moved to Nashville and got my first "real" job out of college. I went to an open call at a local agency and they took me on. They submitted me for a commercial that same day and after a couple of auditions with the director I booked it. That's when I knew this was an industry I wanted to continue to grow in and make into a career. The "real" job didn't last long, but I'm lucky my resume in this industry is still growing.

What do you love about the business? What would you change?

The one thing I love about the business is that it is always changing. No job is the same. The one thing I would change would be that most people who work in the industry want to talk shop even when we are in a setting outside of our work. The only way to not drive yourself crazy is to have a life outside of the business. Instead of viewing everyone as competition, I wish we could see it as someone else opening doors for us to book a job later.

How do you stay positive?

It is so easy to get down on yourself and start to wonder what's wrong with your look, or is it something I said, was it my hair?! Your mind can take you into some very negative places if you allow it. I have learned that I can only prepare myself and bring my best to every audition. Odds are I won't get the job, but I know that there will be another opportunity. I also have great friends that are there to lift me up and remind me how talented they think I am. :)

What's been your favorite shoot?

My second commercial for the University of West Georgia has been my favorite so far because I was able to do a little more acting and learning to step was challenging but lots of fun. My first West Georgia commercial started my love of this business. I had zero experience in commercials but somehow I booked the job. I also had a great time working on the condo shoot I booked through being in the Soup. It was so cool to have my work up in my home city, my dad even went and stood next to the ad on Crescent Street and took a picture. That was certainly a highlight.

How can TalentSoup best serve talent like you?

I think that TalentSoup can best serve talent like me by continuing to get my face out there. The Webcomp has also been such a great benefit because it is a clean display of all of my photos along with my resume and video. I can email it out to anyone I like which I think is great. Rad has also been great in providing talent with encouraging words on the TalentSoup blog. I knew I was in the right place with Soup when Rad sent me positive feedback from the job I booked through the Soup.
