Five Questions With Larry D.

Larry has been in TalentSoup since October 2010. His Webcomp can be viewed at http://tso.to/m7TAG6. This is part of our Featured Talent series.

Why did you get into the industry?

Honestly, I got into the industry completely by accident. A friend (who was already on TalentSoup) told me about a shoot that was looking for somebody who matched my ethnic profile. I have never done any acting or modeling, or even thought about it, and didn't have any headshots, but I figured that it didn't hurt to try, especially since there was no cost. So, I dug up some random photos, created a free TalentSoup profile, and to my surprise, I was cast and selected almost immediately! A few months later, I landed another great-paying gig; at that point, I decided maybe this was something worth doing on the side.

What do you love about the business? What would you change?

I just think it's just fun to be involved "behind the scenes" and especially seeing your work in the wild. Most of the people I've met have all been very friendly and helpful. And of course, what's there to complain about when you're being paid for doing something as simple as getting your picture taken? However, I would say that there is room for improvement in organization and communication.

How do you stay positive?

I may have a different perspective than other talent, but since I have a full-time career in the IT industry, I consider any modeling work I'm lucky enough to land as gravy on the side. The jobs are generally fun, and the money is good, so what's there not to be positive about?

What's been your favorite shoot?

I've only done a handful of shoots, and honestly I've enjoyed all of them! Everybody has been very nice and made each shoot a great and fun experience. If I ever land a shoot on some remote tropical island, I'll change my answer then. :)

How can TalentSoup best serve talent like you?

Keep doing exactly what you're doing. From what I've observed and heard, it seems that the industry has historically been very skewed, where agencies have had all the power and control. Communication can be lacking, and payment is often slow. TalentSoup seems to be addressing many of these issues and leveling the playing field a little bit, putting more focus on the talent's needs and best interests. And of course, the main reason for all of us being here is jobs and exposure! Keep putting us in front of high-profile companies and giving us a chance to land the great jobs.
